Crispy Creamy Tofu with Dipping Sauce


This has to be one of my all time favorite treat dishes with the silken tofu that is crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.  If you have never tried tofu, this is by far the best way to prepare it and try it for the first time.  Even my meat-eating family and friends adore this dish. 



For the Tofu
1 package of extra firm silken tofu, cut into 1 1/2 x 1/2 inch squares
Potato starch for dusting tofu
Peanut Oil for pan frying tofu


Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

Fill a non stick skillet with peanut oil so that it is approximately 1/8″ deep.  Place on medium high heat.  


Lay out cut tofu in one layer on a plate so that it is not touching.  Using a sieve dust the tofu with potato starch turn and dust other side.  


Place tofu squares in hot oil in skillet and fry on each side until golden brown. Serve now or transfer to a sheet pan lined with foil and place in oven to keep it hot until ready to serve.


Dipping Sauce
2 green onions finely sliced
1 jalapeno or 2 red thai chilies finely chopped
1/4 cup low sodium, tamari
1/4 cup mirin
1/2 t sesame oil
Combine all of the above ingredients in a dipping bowl
